NAMI Signature Programs

We are excited about our plans to implement many of the NAMI Signature Education Programs and other NAMI Programs to meet our local community's mental health needs. With caregiver programs in English established, we are focusing on implementing NAMI programs with consumer participation and those to meet ethnic and cultural needs of our community.

Ending the Silence (ETS)

Ending the Silence (ETS) is a program to educate high school and middle school students on the early warning signs of mental illness, how to get help and recovery. Students hear the facts about mental illness as well as personal testimony from individuals who have their own lived experience and personal journey with mental illness. Through the presentation, students are given ideas about how to help themselves, friends, or family members who may be in need of support. Family-to-Family

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program. This means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition.

NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.

Our Family-to-Family Classes are for caregivers of someone with a serious mental illness. For class curriculum click please visit the Family-to-Family page at NAMI.org.

IOOV (In Our Own Voice)

In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is a unique public education program developed by NAMI, in which two trained consumer speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.

Throughout the IOOV presentation, audience members are encouraged to offer feedback and ask questions. Audience participation is an important aspect of IOOV because the more audience members become involved, the closer they come to understanding what it is like to live with a mental illness and stay in recovery.

Our first IOOV presentation was made at JGPH (John George Psychiatric Hospital) in San Leandro on June 7, 2012. In the month of June 2012, we made 7 IOOV presentations at JGPH acute care, one at Villa Fairmont sub-acute care and one at Fairmont Psychiatric Outpatient to 184 loved ones, caregivers and providers in a total of 9 presentations. This was accomplished with the support of NAMI Santa Clara County. For the most part, all evaluations were exceptional.

Peer-to-Peer

Peer-to-Peer is a 8 sessions class for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery.

We are implementing Peer-to-Peer classes at criminal justice and educational supported organizations.
